Samara is really filling out this year with nice brisket and length of body. Her breeding did not take for 2022, so I'm looking forward to 2023 to confirm her udder quality is up to her dam Sonflower Ranch Aspen. Her sire has some great milk and udders in his lines so I'm very hopeful. In following a tree theme for the names of Aspen's offspring it took me a while to come up with Samara's name. Until one day when I realized she rarely walked in a straight line, but spun around, up and down, and over various real and imagined obstacles. She was like the maple tree seeds I played with as a child. I looked up the name of those seeds and quickly determined that would be Samara's name. Bina is a beautiful goat! As a younger yearling I did not breed her. Her first freshening will be Spring of 2022. I do not have other goats from her lines so I'm really glad with how nice her udder is for milking. She was my favorite to milk in 2022. Her sire comes from some well known Mini Nubian lines and I see several similarities between Bina's udder and her dams. Looks like she got the best of the established and new lines she brings to Mini Nubians. One of three retained doelings out of Sonflower Ranch Aspen. It was immediately evident that Willow was both long legged and graceful her first week of life. As I work with a tree theme for Aspen's offspring the name "Willow" seemed perfect. I enjoyed many days under the willows in my childhood neighborhood. Willow's elegance and peaceful nature has continued to be her shining feature as she grew this year. The Bible verses I think of with Willow are Psalms 137:2 "We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof." and Isaiah 44:4 "And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.". Her offspring will follow this theme with names associated with beautiful and elegant aspects of creation and reminders to rejoice in God's goodness and to stay true to His ways, no matter the times, living with confidence in the promise of His redemption. For a number of years I worked on establishing my doe herd, looking for consistency in mammary, breed characteristics and personality. Primarily because I keep a small herd and I want to love milking them. Now, with the doe herd in place I selected Magnum to bring specific improvements in the next generation. His sire, GG Dreamer brings width, length and his dam's snuggly attached udder holding up strong at 11 years old. And then I just fell in love with GG Maggie's beautiful udder, MDGA Top Ten list accomplishments in volume and butterfat, and near perfect conformation. With 2 kids on the ground I can say that I'm very pleased so far with the front end width, topline and rumps. Next, to freshen those girls in 2024 and confirm increase in milk production and continued enhancement to the easy to milk, soft, pliable udders with strong attachments. Excited to have Magnum as our main breeding buck - should give me plenty of time to get a good picture!
